Radio 1

In 2022, the Radio 1 studio got a complete makeover. Back then, we took care of the lighting: a combination of functional, creative and atmospheric light that matched the new studio concept perfectly.

Three years later, we were contacted again by Laura Vermeylen, designer at VRT. Radio 1 had launched a new house style, including a refreshed logo. The question: could we remove the old logo and build something fresh, eye-catching and contemporary in its place?

The wishes were clear: illuminated letters with the new RADIO 1 logo and a light box that shows a soft gradient, yet subtly comes to life with a gentle pulse – so that it would not become a static element.

That last part called for some extra thinking. A light box that shows an even colour gradient and also pulses softly requires a well-thought-out combination of materials, LED technology and programming. After a short technical investigation, we knew how to tackle it.

The result:

• 2 dynamic light boxes with a pulsing gradient
• 2 sets of illuminated letters with the new Radio 1 logo
• A subtle but visually striking addition to the studio

The light objects were mounted in two prominent places in the studio, so they contribute to Radio 1's new look both on screen and in atmosphere.

A successful follow-up project for VRT – and once again a great collaboration with Laura and the Radio 1 team.
